By James B. Bartle

It’s been a rollercoaster ride over the last several weeks as the Sullivan Fire Protection District first placed ten year Fire Chief Rich White on paid administrative leave and then following a meeting in early September they opted to offer a severance package to the chief with his resignation. During this time the Fire District Board stated that White had done a great job with the district and they wanted to go in a different direction.
On Monday and Wednesday the Sullivan Fire Protection District met in closed session, Monday for their regular meeting and closed session with nothing to report on Chief White’s status other than he was still and employee of the district although he is not compensated and remained on non paid administrative leave.
On Wednesday evening the District Board met for a closed session meeting for more than an hour and returned to open session stating that they took action on one matter of personnel and would not release that information for 72 hours.
On Thursday the Independent News learned from sources that the Fire District has terminated the employment of Chief Rich White and severed all ties with White. White must turn in any district items including keys, uniforms and is no longer a member of the district and will not even have to opportunity to remain on the Fire District Honorary Membership.
The Independent News will have more on this developing story in our October 7, 2015 edition including an interview with now former Chief Rich White.
